We're just renting our current home, which is quite nice, except for the kitchen sink---it black. No matter what I use, it never cleans, always dries dull and streaked. I've tried Bon Ami, Bar keeper's Friend, baking soda, windex, vinegar, always dires the same crummy streaked look. I don't want to use comet for fear of scratching it.

also, the stove and fridge are black, same problem, they show every finger print. I've even tried using alcohol, that seems to work, but hate the smell.

What is the sink made of? I have a black granite sink and it would show some water streaks and such but I clean it really well and then give it a coat of granite sealer and that keeps it clean for about 2 months when I repeat the process.

Its not granite, I don't know for sure what its made of, think its some sort of plastic or metal.

Not even!
If it's not a cast iron porcelain sink, it's probably a composite. And 90% of all composite sinks are made of 80% granite- the rest is polymers and/or resins.
Most manufacturers recommend the following for cleaning;
Mix a solution of vinegar and water in equal parts in a spray bottle. Spray the sink and gently scrub with a soft, clean cloth.
Rinse the sink again with clean water.
Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it to stubborn stains. Gently scrub the paste in with a soft, clean cloth and rinse with warm water.
Wipe the sink with a dry clean towel.
If you have no luck with these recommendations, it's probably beyond help. Obviously, solvent based cleaners (like rubbing or polishing compound) will not be good on these type of sinks due to the porosity of the stone dust.

We have a black stove and fridge too. I just use a microfiber cloth with a diluted solution of all-purpose cleaner. For really icky spills on the stove, I use a drop of Dawn.

Marylee I feel your pain - my old house had a black cast iron (or whatever they make nowadays that resembles it) sink and there was no way I could ever keep it looking nice. I found drying it completely with a paper towel was my best bet when I was on one of my "perfect housekeeper" kicks - otherwise I just pretty much let it go and grumbled every time I passed it.

Once you have a black sink you'll never have another.

My black ceramic sink has chipped on the edge and I am thinking of black shoe dye. Maybe that would help your streaks? Not sure if it would stick as I haven't tried it yet.

I spray wd-40, scrub it with a plastic scrubbing pad then dry with paper towels. A wiping of olive oil can follow.
